CalArts Music Auditions

    2024 Audition Schedule

    Audition Guidelines

Prospective students must complete all Admissions Requirements as well as the program portfolio and audition requirements to be considered for admission.

Please contact Julie Reames (jreames@calarts.edu) with any questions about auditions or the School of Music's programs.

Applicants applying to the Instrumental Arts, VoiceArts, and Performer-Composer BFA and MFA programs are required to participate in an in-person interview and audition OR a virtual interview. After you submit your application, you will receive an email, granting you access to sign up for an audition location in one of several cities. You can also register through this page by selecting one of the following dates. We will then contact you with your audition time. If you cannot attend an in-person interview/audition, you may participate in a virtual interview and we will treat your portfolio as your audition.

Applicants applying to the Performer-Composer DMA program will be contacted if they have been selected as a finalist for the second stage of the application process.

Applicants applying to the Jazz and all World Music BFA and MFA programs are required to participate in a virtual interview. There will be no in-person audition due to the ensemble performance logistics of the application. Following your application submission, we will review your application and contact you to schedule your interview.

Lastly, the Music Technology and Composition & Experimental Sound Practices BFA and MFA programs and the Experimental Pop BFA program do not hold required auditions or virtual interviews. Instead, if needed by our faculty, we will contact you about scheduling a virtual interview.

Instrumental Arts, Performer-Composer, and VoiceArts BFA and MFA applicants, please select one of the following audition locations:
